A Good Time Had By All

I had the great fortune of going to Northern Minnesota to visit parents and sister/brother in law with my two adult daughters. In this beautiful pristine landscape we ate ableskievers, wrote New Year goals in Hibbing, MN, bought yarn and needles for knitting, cross country skiied, ice fished and then ate the fish, nailed up photos of ancestors on my parents livingroom wall, watched birds outside the window eat from the feeders, laughed and enjoyed everyones company. We even brought in the New Year watching Field of Dreams. "Is this heaven? No, it is Iowa."

  1. A few years ago my brother and I went ice fishing at Lake Mille Lacs MN. For a couple of Florida boys was that a different world. We spent a few days fishing in an ice house. It was very unnerving hearing the ice snap and pop while we tried to sleep at night. Even though the ice was about 3 feet thick I was worried about the house breaking through. We caught a few fish with those very tiny fishing poles that are used up there. I still have an ice ladle from the trip. I'm probably the only fisherman if Florida with one of those in their tackle box.
